We booked this trip through our cruise- only 10 of us with our awesome guide Chad- short bus trip thorugh Freeport where we learned a little about the geography and culture of the island.
We were taken to a quiet beach with crystal warm water and kayaked in 2person kayaks to Peterson Cay which is a protected deserted island (state park). Beware- NO SHADE bring your hats and sunscreen! It was a fairly easy trip and well worth the effort, we are all in shape but not especially athletic.
We then snorkled around the Cay and it was like snorkling in a swimming pool except with tons of fish & coral- awesome! We then had a simple lunch of sandwiches fruit and cookies and relaxed. Chad was so friendly and informative; an expert snorkeler and native Bahamian with vast knowledge of the Bahamas and ocean. After lunch, we paddled back, helped load up the kayaks and were back to port in plenty of time to board- well worth every penny and a highlight of our trip! Great for a little excercise and a relaxing day in the sun- ask for Chad if you book this trip!!!
Our tour to Peterson Cay national park to Kayak and Snorkel was lead by a gentleman named Chad (or "Uncle Chad"). Chad was not only incredibly well informed of the natural and cultural history of the area pertinent to the trip, he had an incredibly personable and accessible way of communicating this information to make the trip all the more meaningful. His super friendly personality developed a family atmosphere where everyone was looking out for everyone else. Safety was emphasized consistently and there was never a moment where I thought I could have been in better hands. This trip which consisted of about 30 minutes of kayaking to and from Peterson Cay and then several hours of snorkeling around the entire island checking out Barracudas, coral reef, fish, etc. was definitely one of the highlights of our honeymoon.
We visited Ben's Cavern as part of a kayak trip through the Lucayan National Park. Our guide was "Ben", the gentleman who discovered Ben's Cavern.
The kayak trip down the river was pleasant and graceful through the mangroves. The gentle current was enough to move us along using the paddles for steering. No need to rush. At the end of the river we came to shore. From there is was about a half-mile or so hike to Gold Beach. Our tour package included lunch and it was waiting for us when we arrived.
After lunch was a nature hike through the 5 eco-systems that live within the park. Throughout the hike, Ben was an unforgettable guide providing stories about the area and facts about the local fauna and wildlife in the park.
Don't miss this tour if you're a fan of the outdoors or nature.
