a sunshine experience

okay, there i was, a gonzo journalist living in paradise. i had just gotten a job with a weekly newspaper, the OBSERVER, as editor of the publication. my publisher had rented a villa for me about two miles from the pinney's beach and gave me a car to get around. i had heard about sunshine's from a friend and i wanted to go fishing. so on a saturday morning, i loaded my fishing rod and some frozen shrimp into the tiny alto and drove down to sunshine's. there he was wearing a huge smile and preparing jerk chicken and some other island delacies on his grill. i bought a drink at the bar and went down to the edge of the ocean and tried to catch some fish. nothing. not a bite for an hour. finally sunshine came over to me wearing that friendly grin. WHAT YOU USING FOR BAIT? he asked. i told him SHRIMP. he shook his head, NO, NO MAN, THESE FISH DON'T LIKE SHRIMP. I TRAINED THEM TO EAT MY CHICKEN. he waddled back to the bar and brought me some chicken. i put some on the hook, cast it out and landed a fish. i caught half a dozen more in the next 45 minutes and sunshine grilled them for me and served them. delicious. sunshine is nevis. go see him and take a fishing pole. the experience will remain with you forever. rick lanning, the celestial cowboy
