Valle de Agaete, Agaete

My wife and myself are finns and we dislike the cold winter in Finland and therefore we bought a house in the valley of Agaete which is green, peaceful, without trafic noise. The air is clean people are friendly and we get fruits every winter from our own garden. Landscape is wonderful with its green dife-rent plants and white houses in the valley. One can see the Teide mountain (3714m high)over the ocean in Tenerife which has snow on the top and fishermen every morning going out to catch their daily living. Unknown people greet each other on the streets and there is no hurry of any kind in life. All the services are close by, but this is not a place for those who want to enjoy nightlife as they have to go to Las Palmas where are all possibilities for noisy evenings especially during the Carnivaltime in the spring. In Agaete valley one has many ways to spend one�s time. You can enjoy mountain climbing, walking in forest up in the hills, burn your skin in sunshine, chat with multilingual foreign neigbours - when you remember that english is not usable with the natives and therefore it is essential to learn spanish more or less to get acquinted with them. Mostly friendly smile is enough but if you need some information a few words are needed. It is also important to understand that a word "ma�ana" does not mean to-morrow but sometimes in the future even a month. After 22 years living here 6 months all the winters we have learned that in spite of our Scandinavian manners and ways of living we always when autumn is coming in Finland we have to call to our travel agency and ask tickets to fly back to Agaete in Gran Canaria to seek the warmth of southern climate, as there is no need to change the winter-tires to our car nor clean the windows of snow, put on all clothing we have and still fall down on ice slippery streets of Helsinki where dayligth is very short during the winter and temperature may go down -30 degrees Celcius below the zero. Winter temperature in Agaete by nights may be 12-15 C. and daily between 17-22 C and this is quite good for us. Rain in the end of the year makes the nature green and fruitful so we can enjoy our oranges every day and get our daily need of C-vitamins and from the sun we get our D-vitamin enough. Having worked many years in our own business we can now have the kind of life we have always dreamed of as senior citizens. Healthy warm climate with convenient humidity to breath easy and curious mind to find new things, what more can you ask, as this climate gives you the pleasure you have always admired for yourself. Many of our friends have asked us; what are you doing there and how do you spend your time there - and this we have to answer that there have not been a single day during these 22 years that we had been bored. Of course there are days which do not go as we have planned, but it is exactly the same all over the world where ever we are as we have travelled more than 80 countries and therefore we have to follow the saying: The God, give us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, Courage to change what we can and Wisdom to know the difference.
