Beef Baron Restaurant (The)
Located across from the Casino Niagara complex at the top of Clifton Hill, this restaurant prides itself on serving meals that beef and oil barons liked to eat—in other words, only the best. And it shows, having won the Family Restaurant of the Year award three times. The decor is also reminiscent of the lordly days of the beef barons with dark wood, high ceilings and formal settings. The dinner menu features broiled NY strip steak, veal Parmigiana, and broiled rack of lamb.
We have been to the falls quite a few times over the years and we always make it a point to eat at Beef Baron's for dinner while on vacation. We have never had a problem with the service or the food. Going back to the falls in a couple weeks and we will definitly be stopping in for dinner.
We have been to Niagara on several occasions and saw signs for the Beef Baron. It was never convenient to stop in due to our schedules. On our last trip we decided to make a point to be in the area of the Beef Baron around dinner time. Boy, were we disappointed. The food was well below average - we have had better steak at chain buffets. The service was slow and server seemed disintersted until she faked her best "I want a good tip" smile when delivering the check. Ambiance.... hahaha!
- It was freezing cold in there
- We were seated directly beside a waitress station
- The food took forever
- My medium rare steak was small & overcooked
- Vegetables were cold
- Waitress never once came over to ask us how everything was or if we needed something else
- Waited approx 20 min after our dishes were taken away for the bill
- Need I say more?
Although the Beef Baron came highly recommended to my wife and I, we had a horrendous evening there. The ambiance leaves much to be desired, the service was amateurish and the food was terrible.
I ordered stuffed sole and my wife had the prime rib. The fish was bland, and came with a side of soggy vegetables drenched in margarine. My wife's prime rib, ordered medium, came out cold. When I asked our waitress to please bring my wife another plate, she seemed offended and gave me a dirty look! Unbelievable! I complained to the manager after our meal, but she was not receptive to my concerns and did not reduce the bill at all.
This was not a case of a restaurant having an off night. I'd advise you to avoid this establishment, regardless of any recommendations you receive.
