Description
This community was settled in the late 1800s by homesteaders fresh off the Oregon Trail. Soon it became a popular resort area and base camp for hikers and climbers brave enough to tackle the glacier resting atop Mount Hood . Restaurants and hotels were established as early as the 1920s, opening up the area to tourism, which continues to thrive as skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and backpacking enthusiasts flock to enjoy a bit of natural recreation.
