My wife and I went to Auten's for the first time Thursday and it was some of the worst food I have ever eaten, the pricing was extremely to high for what you get at lunch. I had 1 piece of chicken and cabbage that had no flavor at all and mashed potatoes that were cold and lumpy. My wife had chicken livers and she said they were salty and her vegetable was terrible and this was 16 dollars (I thought it was a joke). We will never go there again and how they were rated in the Aiken Standard I don't know.
My mother was about to leave early one morning to look on the fields for the church's sec. that was able to take her children to Myrtle Beach for the weekend so I told her although the green thumb that she had from my grandparents had passed me by I would help her as best I could. After a morning of pulling weeds & such I wanted to surprise her with one of her favorite dishes. I had seen Auten's ad in the local newspaper so I ordered some breakfast meals to go, but made sure to let the meals be different so that more of the menu could be sampled. Everyone was the personification of Southern Hospitality. I have already sent a text to everyone in my i-phone, but also made a promise to leave a review online as well. When I told all of the librarians I work with about this hidden treasure they checked their calendars for openings arounds midday or lunchtime. The breakfast was like they had Grandmother's recipes, but since Grandmother never wrote her recipes down they must have the next best thing. I look forward to seeing how their lunch & dinner compare to their early morning dishes. If they're even a portion of the same high caliber then I may have to put an air hockey gameroom where my kitchenette is then just get meals from Auten's.
Have eaten at Auten's several times, and today was maybe my last. Too much salt and way to much pepper. No need to be in a hurry. Freindly folks, just not good food. Cole slaw needs more than just cabbage! Corn bread was good. Thats about it,
