Sultanahmet Camii (Blue Mosque)
Built in 1609-1616 under the ruler Sultan Ahmet I, this mosque is the only one with six minarets. It is called the Blue Mosque due to the 20,000 blue and green toned tiles adorning its ceiling. The hand printed Iznik tiles, 260 stained windows, the impeccable architectural expertise waits to amaze you with its beauty. The Hunkar Mansion, now Carpet and Kilim Museum and Arasta, a bazaar are the two main attractions.
here is very peacuful and nice place to visit. very near to other historical places like topkapi palace and aya sofya(in native language). if you decided to visit the blue mosque where pope prays in his last visit to trkiye be sure to bring lots memory sticks with you (you will see lots of scenes to pic)
The Sultan Ahmet Mosque is one of my favorites. It is so beautiful! The Blue makes it look so peaceful and quiet. It is an amazing place and you dont have to be Muslim to go inside and see! Great History and Art Inside as well as outside. Great people and atmosphere. Very, very peaceful and quiet! A must see!
