A delightful place for the kids as well as adults, Parrot Jungle Island is a great way to spend a day outdoors. Located just minutes away from downtown Miami, the park is full of birds and animals. It was started by Franz and Louise Scherr, who wanted a place for their birds to fly free. Today the park is also home to many animals such as penguins, orangutans, crocodiles and even tigers. There's also the Treetop Ballroom where nature fans can have their events, planned to the last detail by their in-house staff.

Save your money
By Christina, 12/03/09
My family and I were excited to try out Jungle Island since none of us have ever been. We chose Thanksgiving weekend to go there. From the moment we got to the door, already we were experiencing problems. I have a 15 month old daughter who is an extremely picky eater. She is extremely underweight and will not just eat anything. I brought with me some snacks for her to have during the day. As soon as we approached the gate, we were asked to have our baby bag searched. Once this manager searched our bag, he informed us that we had to leave the snacks in their office at the front of the park. I informed him that my child needed these snacks if we were going to be here all day. He told me that I could come back to the front of the park anytime my daughter wanted a snack. I asked for a refund, and he said that the tickets are non-refundable. Not only is the parking $7 to go there, but there admission prices are not very cheap. All this money to not even be able to bring in some snacks! He began to give me there ever famously used story that the animals have died from others feeding them food. Well here's the clincher. I leave my snacks behind, I begin to walk to the area where there are parrots out in the open, and directly next to these parrots, I see a stand where you can by the same Doritos and chips that they have confiscated from everyone. Can you say money scam?!!! Wow, I told my family we are not buying a single thing here. I refuse to help this business by our purchases. That was unbelievable to me that they would tell me a sad story about parrots dying yet, they are selling the same snacks out in the open near the parrots. I went back to the front later, and sure enough, the same manager was not there, and others were getting in without any bags being checked. Whenever my family and I go to Disney or any other amusement parks, we always use our camera when the kids are with the characters. Here, when our son had the parrots on his shoulder, you could not use your own camera. Only the photographers there can take the picture with their camera so you can buy them. This place was pricey, greedy, and not worth the trip at all! Our family vacations a lot, and me coming from a hospitality background as well, have never seen such things. I will never go here or recommend to anyone. Save your money.

A RIPPOFF
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/09
The price is way to much to see a lot of parrots. You pay 30.00 a person plus 7.00 for parking. your better off going to the Miami Metro Zoo for 18.00 and free parking.

LOVED IT!
By Chelsy, 04/02/09
It was a great place to go and they CARE about the animals and most of the proceeds go towards protecting the m! Its much better than the zoo or aquarium. You see the animals just like you would in the wild plus there are many hands on activities and photo ops with the animals!

GREAT PLACE but TOO EXPENSIVE
By FSU Alum 2007, 03/30/09
I am a local... so when I get bored I like to do touristy things that I dont normally do... so one day I took the opportunity to visit the "new and improved" Parrot Jungle Island... I thought the vanue was great!! It was beautiful and I enjoyed the shows too... great place to take young children or adults who think they are children... yes PJI is VERY EXPENSIVE!! I can tell you the reason for its high prices is because the rent there is EXTREMELY HIGH...but I can assure you that it is a great place :-D

A TOURIST TRAP!!!
By Margi, 06/03/08
Visited Parrot Jungle Island when my grandchildren came to visit from Colorado. Nothing like it used to be when it was located on Red Road. Back then it was lush, green and welcoming. You used to be able to sit down and enjoy breakfast, shade and breezy ventilation. NO MORE! It has now become a tourist trap. Costly admission, costly parking, costly food, costly portraits, costly snacks for the birds, a concrete jungle, not much to do, narrow pathways, not enough animals, too hot from much sun and no shade....overall, a bad experience. I even had a run-in with a park employee. It took an audience with a manager to calm us down. They offered discunted return tickets for our trouble but I declined them. The kids left hot and cranky, though they enjoyed the animals. I will never return. To me, it was a major rip-off!

You Take Your Chances - Use Extreme Caution
By Peter, 06/03/08
Although the internet site does note, "Severe inclement weather may affect Jungle Island’s hours.", the sign at the ticket window does not, nor does the sales rep warn you what constitutes severe weather in their mind. We are from Phoenix, AZ (the no rain state) and I hate rain. Yes, hate is a strong word, but true. That being said, after spending $150, we decided to stay even after a few short rain spurts. (If I could handle it, anyone could!) But after only 1 hour there and four hours before the park closing time, we were told everyone had to leave. Management would only offer everyone a 4 day extension back into the park. I requested a refund since the park personnel who told us they were closing the park said we would get one as we were leaving the next day on our cruise. Management not only refused our refund, but was extremely rude to not only me but several other guests in the same situation. I suggest for what you get there (it is a SMALL zoo), you are better off spending your money elsewhere!

Why bother
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/28/08
For one, it's way too expensive. Like $30 per ticket plus $7 for parking. Second, there isn't a whole lot going on. The enclosures for the crocodile and tigers look too small, the beach is small and no swimming is allowed, and there are almost no water fountains in the park, forcing you to buy water in the vending machines which is another $3. I will say the bird and reptile shows are nice, but the tiger show is very disappointing.
