Excellent Christmas Adventure
By ,
This is a beautiful Victorian home that was built between 1858 and 1862. For the Christmas season, each room is turned over to a local decorator who decorates it in line with the annual theme (for 2008 it is the three wise men). Tours at this time are self-guided but there is a docent in each room to explain all about it.Only two families have ever lived in it. Truly a beautiful home and worth seeingalthough the price is a little steep.

VICTORIA MANSION

Fabulous mansion with 90% original articles/furniture in the house. Informative tour guides who give details in an enjoyable, easy style. Tour takes ~40 min. and an opportunity to go to the gift shop full of choices after the tour. Highly recomended when visiting Portland!

Victorian Opulence
I was fortunate enough to visit this home during the Christmas festivale, it was decorated to the nines, every room with it's own Christmas theme. I'm also looking forward to a revisit of the home when I can concentrate on the architecture of the period, but I will definately make another Christmas tour just for the sheer pleasure of being dazzled. I loved the gift shop too, especially at Christmas, lot's of things to buy at resonable prices, my shopping was already complete when I visited last year, this year I'll get all my stocking stuffers there.

Beautiful mansion and excellent tour
By ,
This was not at the top of my list of places to see in Portland. However, I was staying nearby and needed to kill an hour or so. The tours leave every half hour and last under an hour. The guide was informative, and the mansion itself is beautiful and unique. Truly a gem. Near the art museum, so stop by before or after.

Beautiful
By ,
I worked at this museum for several years, and each time I come home, I stop by as there is something new to see and appreciate -- new brownstone on the tower, the renovated carriage house, new (original) furniture, a beautiful new carpet in the hall. It's an amazing piece of history, so well preserved. Definitely worth visiting again and again.
