Great Lost Bear
Known for having the best wings, nachos, and burgers in town, this unique restaurant also features an enormous menu that includes spicy and hearty dishes, award-winning desserts, and a large vegetarian selection. They are open daily for lunch and dinner.
The place is dark, loud, always filthy (do they own a vacuum?), the tables are thick and sticky with goodness knows what. The food is overpriced, overgreased, overcooked sludge; nothing is fresh, nothing is tasty, the servers are snotty as are most in Maine, and if you want a beer, buy it at the store and drink it someplace pleasant unless you like being elbowed around by the local PD who hangs out here (after hours).
This place is nothing more than delusion and attitude; i.e. you must be wrong if you went there and had a bad meal, hundreds of drunks loved it! Got to RiRa or Flat Bread pizza for a decent meal and great view.
The Lost Bear is an amiable tavern, with an extensive menu, and a huge selection of draft beers, most of them (but not all) from breweries in Maine.
Our waitress was friendly, and guided us to what we wanted on a menu that can be a little overwhelming because of all the great choices. We had chicken strips (hidden as "boneless wings" on the menu) with thai peanut sauce, and an unexpected but delicious take on cajun cheese fries (cottage fry rounds, with a creamy cheese sauce with cajun spice sprinkled on top). Dessert was strawberry cheesecake, which came on a plate swimming with strawberries and syrup - great stuff.
I had an Allagash Brown, and I could really taste the difference very clean taps and a quick turnover makes. They claim that their beer is fresh, and that wasn't just hype.
All told, a very solid place - good food, great beer, friendly and competent service. What's not to like? ;-)
The Great Lost Bear is a Great place to spend a lost day... or any day for that matter... The food is great, simply awesome... The restaurant's atmosphere sets a very loose, fun mood. Bring your appetite, and bring friends, for the Great Lost Bear is a great place to loosen up after a long day at work...
Oh yeah, with over 50 beers (yes, fifty) on tap, you really can't go wrong!!!
