I have a group of golfing buddies. We travel to the Brunswick area two to three times a year. We play a Sapelo Hammock and eat at Blackbeard's Cove. We have been treated like family everytime over the past four years. The Shrimp are the best on the coast and the portions are out of site.
Our trip would not be complete without at stop at Blackbeard's Cove!

This place was absoultely awful...Its basically a little house turned into a restaurant with a bar on one side. The dining area was very small and poorly lit. It had old 1960s llimoleum flooring which was very dirty.Their little children were running around the establishment barefoot and looked as if they just finished playing in a mud hole out back. The food was great when it got to us one hour and 45 mins after our order was placed. Kudos to the wait staff, they did an awesome job, we totally understand you cannot help what the cooks do and why they take so long. The bathrooms were fiility as a jail cell bathroom. Alcoholic beveage prices are outrageous $10 for a 16oz styrofoam cup. Really dont know how to decribe this place. If your not there drinking, then it was almost as if we were not there. All in all a very intresting experience, but will not be returning.
If the service at this restaurant was as good as the quality of its menu items, I'd give it 5 stars. I'd really like to see this restaurant succeed but management needs to adjust its attitude and show customers that they are truly welcome, rather than expected. Be prepared to get alienated if you go. There are other restaurants (one or two) in the area with comparable fare and much better service.
Where do I start: My shrimp was not cooked all the way, the fries were cold, and the tea taste like dish water. I mentioned this to the waiter and he apologized saying they were trying something new. This is only my second time going to this restaurant. It was so bad last time that I said I would never go back… But I did. Actually the main reason I went was for the band. But as I bellied up to the bar, a security person came over and started hassling me and my wife. We just left after that. I usually go to Speed's Restaurant but I wanted to give the cove another try. Sorry Stacy. You're a good person but your restaurant is nowhere near as good as Speed's. My advice to anyone traveling that area, go to Speed's Restaurant. That's the best the Georgia coast has to offer.
This place was awful! Our waitress skipped our table even though we were there before any of her other tables. We asked to speak to the manager and told the manager was too busy. Needless to say they have the worst customer service. Save your money and time and go somewhere else.
WOW!!! I'm a native of coastal Georgia and have to say that I have never had seafood this fresh, cooked this well and served so generously. EVERYTHING about this place was fantastic. The staff was warm and attentive, they clearly take pride in their food, and the setting was comfortable. But, that was just the beginning. The menu promised more than the common cole slaw and french fries sides, as the evening side specials were butternut squash roasted and glazed, zucchini sauteed with mushrooms and onions, fried corn on the cob and more. I split the seafood platter for two with a friend and we were both amazed at the copious amounts of amazing food - available GRILLED! Not having to settle for fried food was a treat in itself and that even goes for the oysters - so big they were grill-able without slipping through the slats. The food was fresh and amazingly flavorful and I only regret that I'm not eating there tonight.
Some friends took us there for a Wednesday night special buffet. A pretty darn good seaford buffet for the price. My wife I went back for the regular menu on Friday...we were well pleased. Shellmans Bluff is about 15 minutes off I-95. I have recommended this stop to friends traveling to FL. But if you are traveling, call them to get their hours. It's family run and the the Chef/wife/owner on occasion has to do shopping. The owner have considerable experience in the seafood industry..they know the product they are selling. Well, if you are the type of traveler that wants to sit down for a meal that a francised resturant can't produce give it a try and a round-trip of 30 minutes back and forth along coastal GA will help break up the trip. You are just not going to find a place like this on I-95. Oh ya they have clean restrooms. Simple pleasant decor. It's the food, it's the food, it's the food. There is a gas station (with competive prices) near there and you have to pass it going to and from the resturant.
