B.F. Clyde's Cider Mill
A bonded winery which produces hard ciders and apple wines, this mill has been family run since 1881 and it is the last steam-powered cider mill in New England. The mill received a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark Award. They make fresh cider during the fall and are open seasonally, seven days a week.
A great example of family tradition, unsurpassed in its period type apple press which has an area where visitors can enter into the period barn and actualy observed the process. Words cannot describe this experience. JOHN CLARK
We enjoyed our visit so much that we went back the next day and took along another couple with us. I have put pictures together of our day at the Cider Mill and shown it to many people. Emailed pictures to many friends. Highly recommend a visit. Fun watching the kids, great hot cider and donuts. Learned alot from watching the apples being pressed. Everyone was friendly. Great day trip esp. with the gas prices, it was well worth it. We will be going back again and then of course next Fall we will sure to be there. Everyone must go and sit on the rap around porch with a cup of hot cider and just breath in the Autumn smells. Relaxing, restful, can't say enough. Thanks to everyone at the Cider Mill for giving us a day of relaxation and fun.
Very nostalgic and educational. Delicious cider and homemade doughnuts! We lived in the area while my husband was stationed at the Groton Submarine Base and a trip to Clyde's was always on our to do list!
We enjoyed the mill and the cider as yum, yum, yum. If you want to see the mill in action--call ahead for hours. Usually, only running on the weekend. We were dissapointed to not be able to see the mill actually running.
This is a yearly tradition. I love the smell, the atmosphere, and the people at Clydes. It is good old fashion fun, and the cider can't be beat! (I have never tried their hard cider but they sell that too.)
They also make fresh hot doughnuts, apple pie, and all kids of candy jams and treats in the old fashion store that is on the site.
Great fun, don't forget your camera!
There is nothing to dislike about the cider mill. Jack and Barbara Bucklyn (Owners) are two of the most wonderful people ever placed on this earth. They are accomodating, congenial, and down to earth New Englanders who have worked hard all their lives. I have had the pleasure of knowing them and the entire family since the mid sixties. If you have a chance, go to the cider mill. It's an experience you will never forget.
We visited during October, and it was just beautiful there. The people are suprisingly friendly for the northeast and the food and drinks are even better, in fact the best! We bought several bottles of wine to give to friends and family for Christmas! Its really crowded on the weekend for the free wine tasting, but its worth it!
