A good friend from Rhode Island recommended this restaurant, so I drove from Fairfield and met her there. I telephoned Anthony's to have them alert my friend I'd be late! Done!
The place has an upscale pub atmosphere, and the 2-seater booth was a bit cramped. Our server was friendly, accomodating and cheerful. We ordered appetizers, consisting of stuffed artichokes, and fried mozzerella, both of which were ample in portion. I found the breading to be a bit overdone, and the artichokes - which we shared, were uncommon, but a little tart for our taste.
We dined on a main course insalata with onions and goat cheese - a melange of flavors and medium-large portion served with crisp asparagus and shredded carrots.
I ordered the lobster roll, which was quite satisfying, the claw and tail "meat" were buttery and tasteful, and the accompanying bow-tie pasta was a nice addition.
Both of us splurged on dessert, and the peach cheesecake was sublime! The tab was $80.50 not including tip, but we did have several courses. I can recommend and would return. Bravo!
I took my husband here for his birthday. They don't take reservations but we went on a Tuesday evening around 6 pm and we were seated right away. It's a small place so a weekend would probably be a long wait to get in. It was a bit noisy at times so if you are looking for a quiet romantic place, this isn't it. It was our first time here and I picked it based on other reviews and the menu on their web site. We both appreciate very good restaurants with a good gourmet menu. AJ's had it! The menu selections all looked fabulous and I wished I had a bigger stomach! They start you off with a bread basket with a super delicious (although a little small) dish of olive oil with tomatoes and roasted garlic that had been "marinating" together....this was excellent and something that we hadn't tasted before.....it would have made an excellent topping for a Bruscetta. I had the Caesar salad which had a wonderfully potent dressing (lots of garlic and cheeses) and my husband had the special of a peach and greens salad with crumbled blue cheese....he loved it. My entree was the Lobster Ravioli, a favorite of mine that I have to try whenever I see it....this was the best I had ever had! LOTS of lobster meat inside and out. My husband got a special of cedar plank grilled salmon.....he said it was very good. We ended the evening with the dessert special of Strawberry Gelato....nice finish. Although pricey for some people, we do these kind of places on special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. Overall, I would highly recommend it!
My husband and I went because my mom raved about the restaurant. We liked it but didn't LOVE it. Nothing was particularly wrong but we felt the food was a bit overpriced for what it was. The bistro is adorable though and the service was wonderful.
