We took the 1 1/2 drive for the east side of Cleveland to the museum just for something to do on a Saturday afternoon. It was an excellent idea.
The guide was very knowledgeable, the exhibits were beautiful and our kids, aged 3,7 and 9 loved it. No crowd meant more than one ride on the carousel for us!
Definitely take the tme to do the "guided" tour. Ask questions...you'll learn more. Truly a wonderful place that we will visit again and again.
Very interesting place to visit. It's the round building on the corner (used to be the post office?). Someone has to keep history alive and we didn't mind paying the admission to this museum. Beautiful displays of the different aspects of a Merry-Go-Round. They offer a "guided tour" which was nice to hear from someone with historical knowledge of Merry-Go-Rounds rather than trying to figure it out ourselves. There is an actual full size(?) merry-go-round set up in the middle of the museum, and we all got to ride on the merry-go-round at the end of the tour. It was better than we expected. I recommend making this one of your stops while visiting Sandusky, Ohio - especially if you are traveling with children. (there is also some beautiful landscaping to see and take pictures of at the park across the street).
Yesterday the four of us went to the Merry go Round Museum and learned the birth and the history of the carousel ride. The three year old was fascinated with the ride and how it operated.BTW it was his first ride on one. In this day and age kids don't get many
chances to ride a carousel because theme parks have become sooooo expensive and carnivals around my area tend to set up in areas that I consider to be unsafe. if you are in the Sandusky area please take the family.Best of all they are open the year round.(Closed Monday and Tuesday)
