What a hike!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/18/10
This trail was beautiful! My family got there about 6 pm so we knew we had to get hiking. We went thru it pretty fast but it was a pretty strenuous hike for a 44 yr old out-of-shape woman. There are a lot of stairs to climb but my in-shape husband and daughter had no problem. Be prepared to sweat. Everyone we passed was soaked. It is not for the out-of-shape folkes. We did love the falls when we got there. It was breath-taking. Take your time and enjoy the walk and you will enjoy it more! I would love to do it again.

The Cascades is an excellent place to visit!! The hike up to the waterfall is wonderful and so peaceful! Not to mention that when you do get to the waterfall, it is breathtaking!!! A DEFINITE must!!

I live near the cascades...
They are actually in Pembroke VA which is a small town in Giles County VA. Not Blacksburg VA which is in Montgomery County about 30 minutes west (if you know where Virginia Tech is you know where Blacksburg is) . I would however recommend the Cascades as a fun day trip you should pack plenty of water and expect to get a little muddy if it has rained recently. My family and I try to hike the cascades two or three times a summer and maybe once in the winter when it’s cold to see the ice on the falls. There is usually only a three dollar parking fee to see the falls and they are definitely worth it.

Great Nature Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/25/07
What a beautiful walk though the woods. My friends and I would go several times a year as a break from studies at Virginia Tech. Fresh air, exercise, and just another natural beauty in Virginia. All Hokies should experience it while they are at Tech

We go every summer!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/6/05
We have to small boys who love this hike. It is especially nice to hike this on a hot day. Most of the hike is shaded and you can play in the water at the top of the hike. You will have a choice of a couple of different trails. One follows the stream and is more a little more difficult. The other is uphill from the stream and is wider and easier. We start in the morning and take the harder trail up and have our lunch at the falls. Then we play in the water for a while and head back on the easier trail. If you don't have small children you can go up and back much quicker. There is a small parking fee. There are also nice restrooms at the start of the trail. Hope you enjoy your hike.
