A public, Robert Trent Jones, par 72 golf course which was carved out of woodland and incorporates plenty of natural water hazards and well placed bunkers across its 6,846 yards. The fairways on this course are tree lined and the greens are large. A driving range with both grass and mats is on site, as well as a practice bunker, a chipping area, and a putting green.

Great round!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/21/09
Played 9/18/09 first time at this course. Enjoyed it a lot, Nice course even though the greens had been aerated and top dressed. Will definitely go back again. The staff was polite and I had no complaints except the little black flies eating me alive.

Rude Marshal
By James, 08/30/09
I had not been to the clubhouse before teeing off today, and no one had told me that carts were restricted to the cart path today. On the first hole, I drove onto the fairway, and a marshal roared up and screamed at me for driving my cart onto the course. There was no need to be rude; this marshal needs to be trained in the art of politeness.

RUDE RUDE RUDE
By golfer, 02/16/09
The staff was rude and the golf course was in terrible shape. You would think with conditions like that, the staff could be a bit nicer! Do not play Stumpy Lake

Quality Course and Getting Better
By Glendon, 02/06/09
Some of the reviews here say that the greens were dead or that the fairways were in poor shape. Well they used to be. Within the past two years they've put in new pipes in the fairways and have completely redone the greens. At one point the greens were killed after there was a problem with the water. While that stinks, they made a bad situation into a good one and redid them completely. Now they're in great shape, and in my opinion are the best kept greens in town. They've also rebuilt the maintainence buildings, and are in the process of renovating the clubhouse. Plus there are plans to redo the par 5 13th and place the green a bit father back onto a penninsula. The folks at Stumpy seem committed to becoming a high quality establishment. I've also read that people have had trouble with the marshalls. While that may be, in two years I've never had a negative experience with the marshalls, or any of the staff for that matter. Always helpful. Do be aware that when it rains, this course is on swamp land and the drainage isn't the best. In the summer it's generally not a big issue, however if there are a few thunderstroms in a week, it can get a little wet. The only other negative I can think of are the mosquitoes. While no one likes them, good luck finding anywhere in Tidewater without them. Great course, decent price, good staff.

Marked Improvements Great Layout
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/05/08
This course has seen marked improvements within the last year. Greens have been redone, fairways are in great shape with the new watering system in place. Staff is very friendly. Excellent value at $38 per round on the weekends includes the cart. From what I was told the clubhouse will be reworked next year. Cant wait to see it completed. I saw that all the previous reviews were written before the improvements were made. Dont sell this one short. Excellent value for your money.

Marshal Law
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/01/07
Our tee time started out at 8:40am. We were enjoying our day when all of a sudden we get the marshal warning us we are one hole back. We look back and no one is there, we look forward and see a 4 sum on the fairway. On the 7th hole, Marshal drives by, points his finger and starts to yell at us, "I told you to hurry up". How rude can you be? Very inappropriate, especailly at the tone of like some little kids! Do Not Play Here! Rude Marshalls! No respect, no consideration, no manners. BAN STUMPY LAKE GOLF IN VIRGINIA BEACH!!!!

Decent course.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/25/07
My overall experience with the couse was average. The price was great (22 to walk 18 after 3), and the staff was nice. The greens were aweful (dead pretty much), but managed to be fast and somehow roll consistantly. The fairways were nice and the overall course layout was excellent. This course is a nice course that has not seen enough TLC.

Unless Your A Friend Of The Staff......
By John, 05/26/07
...don't even bother going to Stumpy Lake Golf Course....unless you like to be harassed by the Marshall for slow play. Twice in the last 3 weekends, our 4-some has played there and been harassed by the Marshall, and in no way were we playing slow golf. We even caught up to a group of regulars and had to wait on them for the last 5 holes...not one time the Marshall talked to them. Our 4-some has played Stumpy Lake at least 10 times a summer for the last 14 years....we will never return. For a good time to play golf, friendly staff and reasonable rates, check out Red Wing, Hell's Point, Lake Taylor or Honey Bee Golf Courses....avoid Stumpy Lake.

Worst course I'ver ever played at!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/24/06
38 Bucks a round!!! This would not normally be so bad except for the fact that their greens are like fairways with sand on them and their fairways are like roughs. Every single put I hit bounced around like crazy due to the divots and bald spots all over the greens. To top it off, the club house is a joke, it's more like some bar you'd find back in the woods off of a back road, and the bathrooms stink. The golf cart I drove was another story; there were multiple times I thought that it might not even make it up the cart path. It was rusted from top to bottom, had a couple of holes in the seat and I swear I've never been in a slower cart. I could have played the round faster if I'd walked, which would have been fine because at about hole 5 the only thing I wanted to do was just get out of there!!
