Firehouse Brewing Co.
Housed in the original 1915 Rapid City fire station, a structure on the National Historic Register; the Firehouse is a brewery and restaurant that offers handcrafted microbrew beer and English pub-style food.
After seeing Rachel Ray's review, this was one of the planned stops on our trip. I am so glad I saw her review on television because this was one of the most fun stops on our trip. The atmosphere was fun - an old firehouse remodeled into a microbrewery, bar, restaurant. Although it was crowded and bustling with activity, everyone was having a good time. The food and service were great.
Note the patches on the wall. Firemen from all over the US, Canada (possibly the world) will leave their firepatch with the Firehouse and in turn receive a Firehouse patch. (a trade per se). It is fun to look at all the patches from different firehouses across the country. We immediately spotted one from our East Coast hometown.
A must see in Rapid City.
I thought the ribs would be really good but they seemed to be baked and then had sauce poured on them. The beer was okay but I didn't buy any to take home with me - I usually do from brew pubs I go to.
If you eat upstairs, it was a little warm - early july.
The staff was extremely good and our service was never lacking.
We were in town visiting family and had tickets for the Dinner Theater on the 3rd floor of the Firehouse. The play was a comedy and had audience participation, and the meal was simple but good. Can't wait to go back to the Firehouse next time we are in Town! Visiting from Iowa.
Our Hamburgers were precooked, guessing about two hours before we arrived, served cold, very very dried out, draft beer was served in a hot glass. Bottle beer was cold.
Would not recommend to anyone, better places to eat at right around the corner with cheaper cold beer and hot food.
The Restaurant is in an old Firehouse. If you are a firefighter then you must go just to see the stuff on the walls, have a beer brewed right there and grab a t-shirt and bar beer glass from the place. Had a buffalo burger which was tender and not dry and was the case at other restaurants where I tried buffalo. Parking was difficult due to the downtown improvements but after a couple of laps around found a spot. Prices were reasonable and enough TVs to check out the sports on there. Service was good. Wife had chicken fried steak which she really enjoyed big servings and lots of gravy.
The food was excellent and the beer was outstanding. I had the Bangor Ladder - sausages boiled in beer and served with garlic mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Great meal, especially when paired with the wheat beer.
Where can I start when talking about this establishment?? The first thing that bothered me (but may be a plus to others) was that the part of the restaurant that we were in led directly to outside and you could hear every car that passed which grew pretty annoying considering that on most nights they have a live band. While I'm talking about the band I also thought it was very rude that they sat us RIGHT UNDERNEATH THE STAGE then had the nerves to put a blasting speaker right next to one of my friends who left with an awful headache. The waitress was horrible and it made me upset that every other table that came after us received their food first when their servers were working more tables. When I finally got my food I will say that it was EXCELLENT but very much so overpriced and it left me and the hubby pretty upset. If I could get the food again from a different place I would but I would never go back there as long as I can help it.
