Don't mistake this for a library. This bar is refined and high end. The room's warm amber lighting and leather chairs are ideal to sink into or cuddle with someone special. The staff are friendly and have to climb ladders to fetch the brandy bottles that line the bar's vertical shelves. The menu at Brandy Library lists the best brandys and scotch available in the world. There are exquisite Cognacs, rustic Calvados and more than a hundred cocktails. The Hors D'Ouevres are as special and include the Maine Scallop Ceviche, foie gras and cavier. If you're feeling particularly decadent, ask for the 1914 brandy.

5 reviews for Brandy Library
terrible service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/16/09
obnoxious staff totally ruined the experience for me. although the bar was half empty, they were constantly complaining that we had too many people. (reservation was for 10, we had 13). i heard this same thing happening at another table too. i asked why they didn't deal with this in a more subtle way, instead of offending everyone, and according to the staff, management just doesn't care. i can understand they're trying to create an ambience, but there's still no need to treat paying customers like that.

I want to die in this place.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/16/07
Yes, there could be no more perfect ending to this life than dying in the Brandy Library, enrobed in the ambrosial vapors of calvados, armagnac, and cognac . . . maybe with Leo Kottke playing his guitar, on one of the sofas. This place is amazing. The selection of spirits is unrivaled. Ethan Kelley, the sommelier, is a walking Wikipedia of French digestifs. He's a Missouri boy, like me, and his genuine friendliness and helpfulness are very, very rare among high-end hangouts in Manhattan. Yes, this place is sleek and chic, but you don't have to be beautiful and rich; everyone on the staff will make you feel welcome (though you should bring plenty of dough; of course, anyone who's into primo spirits knows they ain't cheap). If you find my corpse, please bury it here!

I want a Brandy Library!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/23/06
I wish they had a bar like this in Providence. I own a famous restaurant here and would like more places to follow the lead in better cocktails and spirit knowledge. Where did they find their satff? They are great, every server and bartender and they even have a sommelier versed in spirits instead of wine. It was great people watching on a recent Sunday night with lots of people in the restaurant business I knew from when I was a cheff in NY and young tribeca locals sipping in style.

Favorite bar ever

I couldn't agree more with the first review! Nothing like it in Manhattan. What an elegant, relaxed, refined respite from the ordinary. I am spoiled now and will settle for nothing less. Why bother?

Sip Calvados and listen to Coltrane
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/10/05
This bar, hiddden in Tribeca, conceals the most amazing selection of spirits you'll ever see. And see you shall: The hundreds of bottles are placed on shelves all around the tables, waiting for the waiters wearing snifter-shaped cuff-links and waitresses wearing cognag-colored dresses to climb on the library ladders to grab the top shelf stuff. The lack of a velvet rope at the door and attitude inside make this swanky lounge different than most others in Manhattan. The music, jazz from all eras and places, is also a refreshing break from the generic electronic beats that you hear everywhere downtown. The prices however are just as high ($13 for cocktails and up to a few hundreds for the very old single malts and brandies). It's a civilized place during the week but it gets crowded on weekends. Either way it's always very jazzy and hip.
