We have been to the Black Bear in Fernley MANY times. I would estimate that 50% of the time our experiece is pretty bad, the other 50% is just ok. It astounds me that in such a small town in such a bad economy people cannot put a smile on their faces and don t work hard to be good at whatever job they have. The people at this restaurant do not greet you kindly when you come in (if they greet you at all), they cannot get you your order in a timely manner and it takes a long time to pay your bill. 3 nights ago I came in with my spouse and 2 small children. Our drinks came except for a coffee that had to brew . Does it take 20 minutes for a pot of coffee to brew? Apparently this one did since it took that long to get it. We saw 5 or 6 other tables come in after us and get their food before us (no exaggeration!). One table was completely done with their meal by the time we were served! When we got our food one order was wrong. But I had to get up and ask the waitress where our food was because she never came to check on us. Also, I must apologize to the person who sat in the booth next us because I took their napkin since the waitress was nowhere to be found to get me one. The waitress felt bad and tried hard to get things right, but after 2 small kids are going nutso because they sat there without food for 30 minutes and having a wrong order, and no coffee, etc, etc, etc...well, you get the picture. I wish I could say this was the only time things like this have happened to us at The Black Bear in Fernley but it has happened many times. I should stop going back there, but how many times can you eat in a smoky casino or eat Domino s, McDonald s, La Fiesta, BK or KFC? So frustrating!!!!
My wife and I had been coming to this diner since it opened. Last night visit was so horrible we won't be coming back. We order a couple of steaks, they were burnt and uncooked, even when we told them we wanted them well done. We told the waitress, and she kept saying she was sorry, and offering us a dessert. We told her we did not want dessert, and to top it all up, she never discounted the Steak my wife never ate. We were furious to say the least. Poor, Poor Service.
Poor service each time we have been there. Took my kids for breakfast last weekend. We waited 15 minutes for a table with no one else in front of us and plenty of tables open. Waited 25 minutes for the food even though it was ready and sat up on the serving counter. Once food was served my potatoes were not even cooked all the way. Much better food and service at the Black Bear in Reno.
Well I decided to give Black Bear Fernley another chance last night and again I was disappointed. I went with just 2 of my kids for an early dinner. We got there and there were only 3 or 4 other familys in the diner (not crowded at all). The hostess seated us and said the waitress would be around soon to take drink orders. We watched 2 other familys come in and get their food and drink orders taken before us. We waited and waited and waited and could not even get the waitresses attention. After 15 minutes we just got up and left. I spoke to a supervisor and she said she was sorry and asked if we watned to come back and she would serve us. NO THANKS!!! Im not giving them an opportunity to spit in our food!!!! We ended up going to Wagon Wheel and were seated and served in minutes even though they were full. I wrote the corporate office to complain about what had happened but I did not get a response. If it was my company I would have responded first thing this moring to appoligize for continued poor service. They just suck. We also noticed that if you have a larger family or party you have to sit in this room in the back and you pretty much get ignored back there. You cant get refills on drinks, it takes for ever to get served and to get your check I guess you have to wait till everyone else in the main dining room has eaten and paid before they come. Poor Poor Poor Service!!!!!
My Boyfriend Eddie and I try to visit the Diner at least once a week. The service is friendly and they always have a smile one their face. One waitress even calls us by our first names when we arrive. We have never had a bad meal at any time of day!
