Istanbul Modern, Istanbul

Istanbul was lacking a modern art museum since years. Istanbul Modern is far beyond than a classical museum; you only visit once and usually get bored in the middle of your tour. Istanbul Modern has permanent collection exhibitions, photo galleries, libraries, theaters, shops and a restaurant with an excellent view of Old Istanbul including Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sophia. The building used to be a warehouse belonging to Turkish Maritime. The idea to restore the building and change to a modern art museum is very creative and challenging. I would recommend to everybody to schedule at least a half day visit to Istanbul Modern including a coffee break at the restaurant as well.
