Rubin Museum of Art (RMA) is one of the few museums committed to preserving and promoting art from the Himalayas and surrounding regions. It caters to everyone; experts, professors, art enthusiasts and scholars as well as young children. The museum is always conducting various public and educational programs and hosts several changing exhibitions. Most important; you can find a rare collection of paintings, sculptures and textiles dating back 2000 years here.
i almost hate to give away NY's best kept secret: the rubin museum! a little-known jewel in the crown that make up NY's cultural institutions. this is a special place--not for everyone. you can best appreciate it if you know a litle bit about himalayan art before you go, but it's not necessary. there are free tours with the price of admission, 5-minute focus tours or longer, more in-depth, a master artist in residence that you can watch every day and who is highly knowledgeable about the art and the processes. an amazing, serene museum, a singular experience. great cafe and museum shop, too!
