I would actually rate this place a 4.5. But since that is not an option I guess I think I have decides your better than a 4. I got so much great food. 1st time there I ordered $30 worth of food, and had more than enough to feed 5 people. ALL was great, the only issue I had with it was communication. Everything worked out fine but i wish I had of been able to speak more fluently to show my gratitude and lessen the confusion as I ordered. Food was excellent, Price was more than reasonable and service and atmosphere was inviting.
Heather, I don't know what beef you have with Grandma's Pancake House, but I hope you just had a bad experience. I LOVE this restaurant. We dined here while visiting family in town and this has by far been one of my favorite places to have breakfast in the US.
Yes, the orange juice is pulp-y, but it's fresh squeezed and delicious, like you squeezed it by hand, not like someone opened a can and mixed it with water. I was not a pancake fan, but their pancakes made me a believer. The bacon pancakes were to die for, their potato pancakes were AWESOME! Try their omelets, they're huge and oh so fluffy, really a very generous frittata. Their food was so good, it didn't have that awful processed taste like you'd get a chain eatery such as Denny's or IHOP, the pancakes tasted homemade and everything was DIVINE!
The service was excellent, very down home, the servers didn't hover, but they didn't ignore us.
As someone born and raised in the Lone Star State, I don't know how you could compare this place to a Mexican Pancake House. The Mexican pancakes houses we have in Texas run from delicious to awful, maybe you dined at a really bad dive and expect all pancake places to be the same. This is a small business seems to run well and treats its customers well. I look forward to my next visit to Cookeville just to dine at Grandma's, and I've been telling my friends that travel through the area to give this place a try.
If you want a good meal, then stop by Grandma's.
I love you Grandma!
