Wonderful, fresh, tasty sushi and appetizers all presented in a very artistic and aesthetically pleasing manner. Generous portions, delicious preparation [the Aji and Hamachi were sublime] and reasonable price point.
Living at the beach, I usually dine in Santa Monica/West LA, but Tomodachi in Newbury Park will have me making the drive here again to enjoy the delectable sushi.
The service was excellent and the itamae [sushi chefs] are personable, knowledgeable and very proficient. A top recommendation from an experienced sushi lover.
Arrived at Tomodachi at 6pm on a Friday. I was anticipating to have the kind of dining experience that I've read about on the raving reviews. This establishment fell very short of expectations. Customer service was very poor & it hadn't even gotten busy yet because there were plenty of empty tables. I waited over 5 minutes at the entrance before being greeted & lead to a table. I sat at the table for over 10 minutes before the person who greeted me at the door, asked about my drink order. The menu was not offered, I had to ask for it. My soda came out a few minutes later, but I waited another 15 minutes and still no server in sight. There were plenty of servers around, they were just running around in chaos, and none of them stood long enough to be flagged down. This is now more than 30 minutes & no one had come to take my dinner order. I finally lost patience when I noticed the table next to me provided their own self-service by getting their own menu at the front desk.
Before I left, I asked to pay for my soda, all of a sudden the service people huddled together to figure out who was assigned to my table & what I had ordered. None of them can come to any recollection, so they decided not to charge me for the drink. That was the only fine point of my dinning experience, was that they were decent enough not to charge me for a drink that I barely touched. Who is running this place any ways, the Three Stooges?
I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone. Tomodachi wasted over 30 minutes of my life. It's pretty attrocious and shameful when a restaurant doesn't have the basic customer service skills to retain a customer and allowed that person to leave a restaurant hungry! How do you stay in business like that?
If anyone plans to visit this Tomodachi, come with a full stomach because it will be a long while before you are served. Good luck to you.
