The Back Abbey is a quaint little pub-type restaurant that has the best beers on tap, and gourmet food to boot! Here are my faves:
The Back Abbey burger is quite a surprise --- the beef is seasoned so perfectly, just enough to bring out the flavor of the meat, and the salad that accompanies it is drizzled in this red wine vinaigrette that is mildly sweet but has just a tiny kick.
They also have excellent pomme frites fried in duck fat, accompanied by 3 different dipping sauces. Very decadent.
The mussels steamed in lemon and butter is a dish that you must try as well. It is a good way to initiate the timid eater who is very finicky and picky when it comes to seafood.
There's not much space to move around, but that's just as well. You would do yourself a favor by talking to the other folks at neighboring tables...everyone who comes in is a regular and has an interesting story to tell, for sure.
