NEWPORT (Trefdraeth) is an ancient and proud little town set on a gentle slope that courses down to the estuary of the Afon Nyfer. There's little to do except stroll around, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better place to do just that. Just short of the Nevern estuary bridge, on the town side, Carreg Coetan Arthur , a well-preserved, capped Neolithic burial chamber, can be seen behind the newish holiday bungalows. The footpath that runs along the river either side of the bridge is marked as the Pilgrims' Way; follow it eastwards for a delightful riverbank stroll to Nevern, a couple of miles away. … more »
