COLERAINE (Cúil Raithin, "ferny nook") is County Derry's second-largest town, a lively enough manufacturing and shopping centre during the day, but a depressingly empty, pedestrianized wasteland at night. Most of the interesting action here takes place down by the River Bann, where there are pleasant walks and a thriving marina, and at the University of Ulster campus, with its excellent Riverside Theatre (tel 028/7032 3232) on Cromore Road.
