Accademia Gallery

Description

The Accademia Gallery is perhaps best-known for Michelangelo's David, removed after four centuries from Piazza Signoria, now exhibited in a specially constructed hall. Other works by Michelangelo include some of his Slave series and his sculpture of San Matteo. Also featured is an impressive collection of paintings from the 13th to 16th Centuries. Among the gallery's most noted works: a Sienese school Crucifix from the 13th Century, 24 panels by Taddeo Gaddi representing scenes from the life of Christ and St Francis and Giovanni da Milano's Pietà.

Book a Guided Tour, it's \"Enlightening\"
By ,
Don't take this offensively but most American tourists are poorly informed, culturally. Please spend a couple of bucks and buy a guided tour of this and the Uffizi Gallery. Do this when or before you buy your flight tickets. The guide will make you feel that Michelangelo is just around the corner. After seeing this work of Michelangelo in books all my life, I was absolutely blown away! I sat there for nearly 45 minutes with tears flowing of such wonderful pleasure. Take note of all the fledgling artists sketching David on their white pads.I did not want to leave but I forced myself to. 'godersi il tempo con David'

David - AMAZING!
By ,
Even if you are strapped for time and only see the statue of David and the unfinished Michelangelo statues leading the way to the main attraction, it is worth the cost. The perfection of the human body down to the veins portruding from the hands, the stance of the body with muscles, and determination seen in David's eyes blew me away. It is perfection and takes your breath away that you are actually looking at such a masterpiece by the great Michaelangelo. You can see what made him one of the greatest sculptures of the time and today. Breath-taking!!! Do NOT MISS it, or you will kick yourself in years to come!

Il Duomo
By ,
Il Duomo in Florence was spectacular. The cathedral is gorgeous with the pink, white, and emerald granite stone it is made out of. The view from on top the dome of the Cathedral is unbelievable, and worth the 200 or 500 or so steps it takes to get up there.

Wow!

The statue of David is worth the visit! Don't be confused by the copy in the square. Get reservations before you go! We went kind of late in the day.

Accademia
By ,
Seeing Michelangelo's David was amazing but seeing in so many other pictures and travel books that it took some of the magnificence away. What blew me away the most was the hallway leading up to David. Seeing all the unfinished boulders that Michelangelo had used in previous sculptures was really cool to see. It was really worth seeing and if I could would go back to see it again.

two days and one night of good life
By ,
i didn't like yhat a had to stay just 2 days in Firenze . I realised that everything is caracterised by high quality. How big is their faith in God and Saint Mary that they could build the Dome and those churches?it's a city with great culture, as the whole Italy and i can't wait to get back!

David
By ,
Do not be surprised - the main (practically only) attraction here is David and that's what people pay to see. Everything else is pretty much thrown in as a second thought. I did enjoy the room that has original casts of statues dating back 100s of years. Do not get there more than 20 minutes before your entry time. Otherwise you'll be standing in line waiting for your group to be called.

Number one attraction in town
By ,
The art is superb. Don't miss it! Make a reservation for sure. You will still need to wait in line for a while. Show up on time, not much earlier. If you are only in town for a day, make sure it's a day that they are open.

compare this
By ,
Unbelievable you can see in David the veins, the muscles, the detail is fabulous. How can you compare this to ponte vecchio? This has to be number 1 in Florence.
