The menu at Mère Besson changes every day of the week. It's L'Estouffade à la Provençale on Mondays and L'Aïado on Tuesdays. Relish some great Bourride (fish) on Wednesdays and Le Lapereau Farci aux Herbes de Provence on Thursdays. On Friday, it's time for L'Aïoli (traditional Provençal garlic dish) and Saturdays L'Osso Buco. Sundays mean Le Gigot d'Agneau au Tian (lamb). Expect to pay EUR21.34 or EUR25.92 for the set menus.
First ate here in 1978 and every summer from 1985 to the present. Our favorite restaurant in Cannes. Superior, hearty food. Friendly, polite service. Mme. Martin is most gracious. Best fish soup, quenelles, chicken, duck, etc. You can spend a lot more money on the Riviera but you will rarely enjoy a meal more.
I first ate at La mere Besson in 1981 and have never forgotten the experience. As a matter of fact in my two week stay in Cannes I ate there everyday for 7 days and tried every special of the day dish they offered over that week and still dream about the food 24 years later. I am hoping to renew this experience very soon and was delighted to find that it is still going strong. I particularly remember the lamb dish with the garlic puree.
