Pettneu has about 1000 inhabitants and is located in the Stanzer valley, at about 1200 meters above sea level. This village is a good alternative for people who don't want to miss out on the many possibilities and the great comfort of the large Arlberg skiing region, but at the same time would like to get round the dizzying hustle and bustle in vacation centers such as St. Anton, for instance. Accommodations in Pettneu are simpler and rather unpretentious on average (mainly pensions and apartments, a few farmhouses and hotels of the three- and four-star categories.) St. Anton, with its busy après-ski and nightlife scenes, is only five kilometers away, and there's a free shuttle service taking you right into this popular vacation resort and the skiing area accessible from there: 260km of groomed pistes and 85 ski-lift facilities are waiting. Pettneu itself features 15km of pistes, several kilometers of cross-country ski runs, and a natural toboggan run (which is lighted in the evenings.
