The embodiment of food in the spirit of the nation is an integral part of its identity. Our Dhaba is the embodiment of Punjabi food and Punjab - a state that has been the envy of the nation (India). In India and Pakistan, highways are dotted with local restaurants popularly known as 'Dhabas', providing local cuisine and serving as stops for truck drivers. Dhabas are traditionally characterized by casual seating on cots (called chaarpai in Hindi) and food prepared in clay ovens (tandoor). Over time Dhabas have come to define a culture, centered on food. Real Punjabi has been influenced by the diverse culinary cultures of Persia, Afghanistan and Central Asia. Punjab provided a conduit to caravans from Bukhara, Kabul & Kashmir. The wonderful frontier foods intertwined with the rich stream of Hindu, Sikh, Pathan, Muslim and Kashmiri migrants enriched the Punjabi cuisine.
Awesome food and Amazing Experience.
I am writing this review after visting The Dhaba often for the last year or so. Usually all the Indian Restaurants start well but then their food quality and customer service starts going down...but I am pleasantly surprised to say that The Dhaba still maintains the food quality and the friendliness.
Since they started I have been pretty impressed with what they have done with a small area. The ambiance is welcoming and the heavy copper plates and bowls and glasses remind me of the authentic Indian style.
I would definitely recommend the Dhaba to everyone and I am sure when you go there once, you will keep going...
Lousy, real bad food - went May 15 2010. Will never go back. Informed owner about poor quality, he assured fixes. Problem is South Indians cooking North Indian for Americans and a Asian backing quality of food. God help those who frequent this 'once upon a time ... good Indian cuisine place'
I LOVE The Dhaba! The service, ambiance, the food is very delicious. It's a food and place that makes you feel closer to India and its culture. I pretty much take all my friends there all the time and my friends second my opinions about the Dhaba too. Especially their garlic naan, bhindi masala, shahi paneer, chaat is out of this world. Its definitely one of my favorite places and I recommend it to everyone!
I have been to Dhaba several times since it opened.Last week we went in a group of 10.it was just around 10 P.M. closing time. However the hostess and the manager came out and welcomed us in.Even the chefs stayed back and cooked us a meal that was most memorable. We left at 11.30P.M.The food, service and hospitality was second to none.
I wish we had more places like this. The Dhaba is surely 5 star.
I took my wife to the Dhaba for the first time several months ago to celebrate after finding out that we were going to have a baby. IT WAS SO DELICIOUS!!!! My wife is from South India and she had been craving Briyani...We had been to lots of Indian restaurants in Arizona but none of the restaurants we went to met the Dhaba's standards. The food tasted so fresh!!!!! If you're looking for a real authentic Indian dining experience I highly reccommend this place.
