The small and relatively neat town of ORMOC on Leyte's west coast faces Ormoc Bay at the mouth of the Isla Verde River. A clean, attractive place, Ormoc has been largely rebuilt after floods in 1992 caused untold damage and resulted in the loss of eight thousand lives. It now has a lovely bayside park and drive from where the sunsets are marvellous, though there's nothing to see in town. Ormoc is also a possible starting point for the gruelling Leyte Mountain Trail.
