The small and rather dull former gold town of THAMES is packed into a coastal strip between the Firth of Thames and the Coromandel Range. As the peninsula's main service town, it has functional value, with a range of accommodation, a few places to eat, and transport connections for both the immediate surroundings and the rest of the peninsula.
