Located 60km southeast of Surabaya, the port town of PASURUAN is a convenient stopping-off spot close to Bromo on the way to or from Tosari and Wonokitri. The main north-coast road is Jalan Raya.
Buses run every few minutes throughout the day between Pasuruan and Surabaya (1–2hr) and Pasuruan and Banyuwangi (6hr) The bus terminal at the eastern end of Jl Raya, about 1.5km from the alun-alun. Microlets run direct to Tosari, although there is no sign at the terminal. There are daily trains (1hr 30min) from Gubeng station in Surabaya. The train station is just north of Jl Raya, on Jl Stasiun.
Hotel Pasuruan, Jl Nusantara 46, has three standards of room, from cold-water bathroom and fan rooms up to those with a/c and hot water bathrooms (Tel:0343/424494; $10–20). Alternatively, try Wisma Karya, Jl Raya 160, which has a range of rooms behind an old colonial bungalow (Tel:0343/426655; $5-10). The top-end rooms have a/c, but the cheaper ones with fan and attached cold-water mandi are adequate.
You can eat at the small night market around the alun-alun, or try the inexpensive Indonesian and Chinese food at Rumah Makan Savera, on Jl Raya 92a.
