TUXTLA GUTIÉRREZ , the capital of the state, does its best to deny most of Chiapas' attraction and tradition it's a fast-growing, modern and crowded city. Though not actually in the highlands, it's the main gateway from central Mexico and a major transport hub; you may well end up having to stay the night. It's not a bad place there's a fascinating zoo and some excellent museums to fill some time but there's no call to stay longer than necessary, and your best bet may be to carry straight on through to San Cristóbal. more »
