The industrial town of BUTTERWORTH is the port for the island of Penang and its capital, Georgetown, and of no interest except as a transport hub. The bus station , port complex, taxi stand and train station (tel 04/323 7962) are all next door to each other on the quayside. All but one of the daily northsouth trains stop here. The 24-hour passenger and car ferry service runs three times an hour from the port complex to Pengkalan Weld in Georgetown and takes twenty minutes.
