Up until a few years ago, most travel guides dismissed LA SPEZIA with a few curt comments. This ordinary working town was known mainly for its huge mercantile port and the largest naval base in the country – until the Museo Amedeo Lia , probably the finest collection of medieval and Renaissance art in Liguria, put it on the tourist map.
