I am one week away from leaving for Madrid. I still do not have my passport, although I sent it for renewal in February. I have contacted my house representative's office, and they have a staff member working on it. She is very helpful, and I would suggest this route for anyone in this situation. I'm pumped about the trip though - hope I get the passport in time!!! This was my first time going abroad alone (for a short time). My suggestions for anyone else planning to explore on their own: 1. Barb (View Barb's trips)Sept.6/09 We arrived on the first Sunday in September, Regatta Storica, note to anyone, "The Grand Canal" is closed from at least lunch to 8 p.m. We had to walk to San Marco's Square which was fine with us. But, I was glad we didn't stay in Venice, as many people had to drag their luggage across the cobble streets to their hotels (no water taxis either). The walk took about an hour, and very interesting as the streets have no rhyme or reason, but "the best way to see Venice is to get lost" I think Rick Steves said this
