WATERVILLE ( An Coireán ) may be touristy, but it manages to avoid being tacky. Popular as a Victorian and Edwardian resort and angling centre, and later frequented by the likes of Charlie Chaplin, it still has an air of consequence that sits oddly with the wild Atlantic views. Its few bars and hotels aside, the town is chiefly notable as one of the best bases on the Ring for exploring the mountainous country inland, with minor roads heading up the Inny Valley to Ballaghisheen and on to Glencar.
