It has acquired a reputation for being filthy and chaotic, but also holds some glorious examples of nineteenth-century colonial architecture, built by the Dutch gentry, who grew rich on the back of the vast plantations that stretch up the slopes of the Bukit Barisan to the west of the city.

Flying into Sumatra onto Jakarta, then Overland accross Java, then land/sea Accross Nusa Tenggara then air to Sulawesi and back to Bali then home. The overland and sea distance is kind of equivalent to Melbourne-Brisbane. Plan for 6 diving days between day 16 & day 32.
