Modern PRÉVEZA , at the mouth of the Amvrakikós Gulf, is a relatively insignificant successor to Nikopolis, but not without its charm. Numerous cafés line the east waterfront, facing Actium (modern Áktio) where the forces of Antony and Cleopatra were defeated. Since the advent of international flights to nearby Áktio airport from the 1980s, this provincial capital has had a facelift of sorts, and more character remains in the pedestrianized old quarter than at Párga.
