BAYEUX, with its perfectly preserved medieval ensemble, magnificent cathedral and world-famous tapestry, is 23km west of Caen – a mere twenty-minute train ride. It's a smaller and much more intimate place, and, despite the large crowds of summer tourists, an enjoyable place to visit.
