Vila Velha, Brazil

Three bridges span the narrow Baía de Vitória, linking Espírito Santo's capital with Vila Velha , the state's largest city. For practical purposes, the two cities are a single metropolitan area, with people commuting in both directions. Whereas Vitória is the state's administrative centre, commercially Vila Velha is of greater significance. The city is also an important transport hub, as a railway terminus and a modern port, which is highlighted in the Museu Ferroviário , one of Vila Velha's few tourist attractions. Vila Velha is no more attractive than Vitória, but its beaches , particularly the Praia da Costa , located just south of the Convento da Penha , at least allow for safe swimming.
