WAGGA WAGGA, known simply as "Wagga" (and pronounced "Wogga"), is capital of the Riverina region and by far its largest town, with around 60,000 inhabitants, though despite its size it remains a green and pleasant place. Its curious name is thought to come from the Widadjuri, the largest of the New South Wales Aboriginal peoples: "wagga" means crow, and its repetition signifies the plural (though some claim it means "dancing men").
