The small town of COOMA is outside Kosciuszko National Park and at least an hour from the nearest resort, but it successfully functions as a service centre for skiers. It's a fairly attractive place in its own right, with a number of fine old buildings on Lambie and Vale streets in particular.
Cooma is also a base for rafting.
