We left Bethesda at 9:30 for Dulles Airport. Dean dropped us off at the Delta gate and went on to his own gate. (he flew a different airline than we did because the government doesn't use Delta for travel, I guess and we used Delta because we earned a boatload of miles from our credit card). Clare, Andrew and I caught the first leg of our flight to Atlanta. I normally would not travel to Seattle via Atlanta, but that's what Delta did. We arrived in Portland an hour later than scheduled and waited another hour for our luggage. Apparently there was something wrong with a door they needed open to get into the luggage hold. We were completely exhausted, but excited just the same. As we were landing we were treated with a spectacular view of Mt Hood. As we'd already paid a fortune to eat at the airport in Denver, we decided to head straight for the hotel so that we could get some rest and be up early the next day.
