This place was a bad overall dining experience, really bad. I came here with reservations for a party of 8. The food is overpriced and slightly below average at best. Upon entering the restaurant you will notice how horrendously loud it is. There are many distractions such as the throwing of thousands of napkins, line dancing around the restaurant, a belly dancer, very loud music, including customers and servers walking back and forth kicking your chair constantly. The food is quite greasy and extremely salty. Our party was here on business, one individual had an insect in their food, and was completely disgusted. The rest of us were embarrassed, as we all ate our meals in front of our co-associate. This individual did not trust the cleanliness of the kitchen, and decided not to order anything after having the staff take away the meal. This was very unfortunate, the staff did not immediately apologize until they were asked to do so by another co-associate. Afterwards, the manager did apologize explaining that in Florida there are a lot of insects, and the throwing of the napkins was probably how the insect got into the food. The staff responded by not charging for the meal, and sending over the belly dancer to our table for a private party dance which was commendable. Our party never intended to be party poopers which is the attitude I felt with the staff however. The place is what it is, featuring a loud club like atmosphere, with below average food for the cost, and a bad dining experience. To all future customers planning on attending this place; I would recommend spending as little time as possible on the menu, and buy mostly cocktails to achieve the best overall experience. This place can be fun if the expectations of the food and dining experience are kept at a minimum.
Some restaurants are for romantic dinners, some are for light conversation, some are for really good food. Opa Tavera is a place for FUN! Its a place for people that are tired of the same thing everyday. A place where they get out of the daily grind and let loose among like minded people. :))
My husband & kids took me there while visiting Orlando for my birthday on Dec 28th, 2011 and I have to say they are still reaping the rewards of their correct decision!
I run a business and our lives are chaotic back home and I really wanted my birthday to be special. And it totally was. :)
As soon as we got in to Opa Tavera I was really excited. I was told that the entertainment started at 7. We got in at 6. My son ordered the shrimp in some kind of tomatoey sauce and loved it so much he got 2 more orders. My older son got a greek salad but I don't think I saw any lettuce! lol. and I think my husband got scallops. Birthday girl got Grey Goose with Cranberry! YUM!
The mood was mellow, the place was full, lots of staff and the server seemed extremely eager to please. 7 O'clock rolls around and the music gets loud, the belly dancer comes out and hundred's of square napkins get thrown in the air. My heart beats faster. Its getting exciting! I'm mean really...where is a woman with her husband & 2 kids gonna go & have this much fun?? Not the bar...Opa Tavera was the perfect mix; fun for them and fun for me!
So, the belly dancer find's her first volunteer and pulls him up on the table! I couldn't stop laughing! Food? What food?!?! Ha!
Then I get surprised with a slice of birthday cake and the belly dancer pulls me up on the table to dance with her. WHAT FUN!?! The night just keeps getting better & better as they form a line dance and I get pulled in. Round and round we go about the room. I'm laughing and having the best time! Napkins flying, music going, I'm grabbing people to join the line. Oh, I didn't want to leave but my family bought tickets to Cirque Du Soliel and and I couldn't wait for that either!
If I lived there I would be there all the time!
Thank you OPA TAVERA for making my DAY SO SPECIAL! Best. Birthday. Ever. I love you guys!!
Taverna Opa Orlando??NEVER AGAIN! Recently moved to the area and decided to take my Greek wife on a date to Opa. Have been to the one in Miami myself and I thought it would be a nice place to take her. Looking at their web page, I was hoping for an experience far better than what it was. The taste of the food was awful and the price was expensive for what it was. It took forever for us to get out main course and even longer for the waiter to bring us the dessert. Not to mention that my wife had to return her main course twice until she got it right. We asked to talk to the supervisor and a female, who was even more incompetent than the waiter come to our table. She was looking more like a waitress than a supervisor. At the end we had to wait for nearly 30 mins to e given the check. I had to literally stand up and get ready to go until I was noticed and a guy brought us teh cehck. Taverna OPA Orlando needs a huge improvement in many areas and the manager of this palce has a lot of work to do in order to improve otherwise a place like this one is giving a bad reputation to the whole chain of restaurants.
This is my first time at Taverna Opa but it is probably the last as well. The food was well presented and many of the portions were large, however the taste was not all that great. As a Greek I would say there can be found better food in town. If you expect high level of customer service- you may want to think twice before visiting Opa. Entertainment? There were none, except for one belly dancer who did not even know how to dance on my opinion. The manager looked like someone who doesn't really care about the customers. If you have no where else to go then Opa can be an option, but my advise would be to stay away from it if you can.
This is probably the worst place I have ever been!!! The food was awful and expensive, the atmosphere was horrible, my voice was hoarse by the end of dinner because the music was so loud. I will never go back and will not recommend this place to anyone. We had 15 people, so everyone got charged a 20% gratuity which was not deserved, since it took over 1/2 hours just for something to drink. I have nothing good to say about this place.
I went to Tavern Opa in Orlando and had a great time. Food was great and service was also great. I danced and ate and danced and ate thanks you for such a great experience I really hope that you open one at my moms hometown in New York! It would do great there!
The food was good, the portions were large, but they service was very subpar. As a Florida resident I was dismayed to be ignored the entire time. We sat outside (DONT DO THAT IF YOU EXPECT SERVICE) and waiting 10-15 minutes for our beverages to be refilled and never saw one belly dancer. I would have rather gone anywhere else on I-Drive. It was disappointing to see that they really don't care about repeat customers. They just want the tourist dollar.
This place is amazing! Fun atmosphere without being juvenile or tacky. The food is excellent with a wide variety on it. Our waitress Leia was so sweet to my elderly parents and just an all around wonderful server. The flame dancer was talented, and her costume exquisite. The napkins falling out of the ceiling were great, the dancing servers were awesome (cant believe they could go so fast). Our reservation was for 6:30 which was perfect because it gave us a chance to focus on menu and order, then the festivities began at 7pm. Will be going back!
