I went to Souls about a month ago. Being that I just moved here from the south, I felt the food was good, but too expensive and I waited 2 hrs to be servered in the to go line. If you are ording to go, you might want to call in your order. My son has not tryed Souls yet, so we will be going there today for dinner.

I went to Souls Restaurant for the first time on 6/31/10 with a friend. I must say it is tastefully decorated and fairly large, the food is excellent. There is parking in the rear. The ladies who served us, were friendly and made us feel welcome. I plan to share my experience with my friends at church. Thanks to Souls for such a nice experience!

I visited Souls for the first time last night 3/02/2010 - Two old friends escorted me to dinner. I haven't been in a Soul Food Restaurant in years, but upon first entering you are greeded by Two Servers, who are very well trained in Ma'am and Sir. Since this was my first time there, I was checking the place out. The decorator and Builder did an excellent job. It's not over done, but just nice. Love the chairs. There's a Parking Lot in the back and the entrance. It has a lot of space. Service was fast, courteous and professional. I ordered Live & Onions, and the portions on the platters means you will not go away hungry. The food was delicious, just like home when I was a kid. Nothing under-cooked or over-cooked. We didn't have to wait that long for the food to reach the table - like any restaurant, you will have some waiting to do - but the food is well worth the wait. I knew it it was owned and operated by Acts Full Gospel C.O.G.I.C. in East Oakland. It is a Christian establishment and the brand new space is absolutely beautiful, featuring Art of African-American legends and Gospel Music. I under stand the Restaurant is open 6-days a week, featuring Breakfast, Lunch & dinner. Breakfast starts at (7:00am). From what I can remember, the menu features Live & Onions, Yams, Greens, Green Beans, Red Beans, Fried Chicken, Meatloaf, rice & gravy, and daily specials, such as Turkey Wings and Dressing, Ox Tails and BBQ - I plan on taking a few friends to visit - it is truly a beautiful Restaurant and I encourage everyone to try it at least once and judge for yourself.

Finally went to Soul's to test out the food. If you DO order chicken, plan for a long stay even if there are not a lot of people in the restaurant. Service was really slow with only about 4 tables to service. Food was just OK for me, nothing to run back for.....

I visited Souls for the first time about three (3) weeks ago. I was immediately greeted by two servers, who were well trained in using ma'am and sir. I had the fried chicken, greens, yams and rice and gravy. All were delicious and as soon as I tasted it, I could tell nothing was from a can. The sides are made in advance each morning, but entree items (such as the chicken) are not cooked until you order. So practice a little patience if the service is slower than you'd hoped it would be. If you're not aware, Soul's is a fairly new restaurant in East Oakland, owned and operated by Acts Full Gospel C.O.G.I.C. It is a Christian establishment offering affordable and freshly cooked to order breakfast, lunch and dinner 6 days a week. The brand new space is absolutely beautiful, featuring art of African-American legends and Gospel music. Sample dinner menu items include yams, greens, fried chicken, meatloaf, rice and gravy and daily specials, such as turkey wings and dressing, ox tails and BBQ. Breakfast items include omelets, French toast, pancakes and a variety of sides. I encourage you to try it at least once and judge for yourself.

I have to say this is the best soul food I've had. I used to go there all the time. The people are very nice and the food is good. I stopped going because i ordered to go one time and apparently they didn't know the milk was bad or something, my mac&cheese was sour (smelling). To make it worse, I had been bragging to my friend &it was the frst time he ate their food.I was grossed out so I didn't go back. I wished it didn't happen but I can't bring myself to go back.

Great atmosphere and who ever is doing the cooking will keep this place around for a long time. Now I have a place I can go and eat real soul food and it taste good. Keep up the good work.
