Rendez Vous Bistro

Description

Located in beautiful Downtown Santa Rosa, Rendez Vous provides the premiere French experience with only a fraction of the travel cost. Rendez Vous Bistro blends modern convenience with a romantic, distinctly old-world ambience. We have proudly recreated an authentic 1930s French Bistro, featuring antique style French lighting fixtures, a custom designed expansive bar, hand laid stone floor, and colorful wall and ceiling murals. Our tables and chairs echo traditional Parisian style, adding a cheerful and comfortable element. The expansive patio adjoins a cascading fountain, green lawn, and tall redwood trees. It can be heated and cooled for your year-round dining pleasure, and adds a picturesque focal point to the bustling corner of 4th Street and Courthouse Square.

After returning from our summer home in Paris, we were delighted to find Rendezvous. The ambience made us feel like we were back in France. We love the food and disagree with the review which finds Rendezvous inferior to La Gare. We found the food at La Gare too rich and very heavy - it is Swiss and not typical French bistro fare. At Rendezvous the chicken is the best we have had anywhere, the caesar salad is divine, the pumkin raviolis are to die for and all in all one of our favorite North Bay restaurants. We are unsure whether you can get a traditional French crepe there however and will go back to explore that further. This is a wonderful spot in downtown Santa Rosa!

Great people watching spot from the teeniest of round tables set with chairs close together on one side for the best possible people watching as seems typical in Paris. Sure, waiters struggle with their French - even going so far as to incorrectly 'correct' my wife's pronunciation of a menu item (my wife spent the first 8 years of her life in Paris). And the waiters need to be able to describe ingredients in the dishes they serve - and especially to let diners know when the chef is preparing a traditional French dish in a very different manner than is traditional. But the chicken dish had the juiciest, most tender boneless chicken breast I can recall having been served anywhere. And the sole in the sole meuniere was cooked perfectly - slightly crisped around the edges, very moist & flaky inside. The 'meuniere' toppings were a departure from the traditional preparation and neither the server, nor, she said could the 'chef', identify certain ingredients in the mixture atop the sole. Very tasty nonetheless. We'll return once the staff has had time to settle in.

One star maybe. The food is just okay nothing special at all. And if you want to eat somewhere and spend time alone with someone or with your friends then don't go here. The tables are so close your right up on the person next to you at a different table. They really should just put all the tables together and just let everyone eat together. And if your going to use the restroomwatch out cause when you go to turn the corner to the restrooms there is the kitchen and srvers are coming around it with food for people and I almost got wiped out by one. Not a place to be romanic or alone with someone. I mean guess a good place if you want to have a drink but even then the tables are right there up on you as you sit at the bar. I also felt our server didn't know to much about the foods or wine at all. But the food wasn't bad but it wasn't anything to write home about or tell others you got to go there. Not anywhere near as good as exspected not at all. La Gare much more intement and food is excellent and your not sitting with the people at the table next to you. So for true excellent French Food I say go to LA Gare.
