La Mar Cebicheria Peruana
Inspired on the thousands of cebicherias found throughout Peru, La Mar Cebicheri-a Peruana, was created as an attempt to globalize and enshrine one of the best guarded treasures of Peruvian cuisine: cebiche, Peruvian seafood and the scenery created to enjoy them, the Peruvian style cebicheria.
We just had dinner at La Mar for the very first time. We are Peruvians and we know what good Peruvian food is suppose to taste like....and this place hit the ball out of the park. WOW!!! The food was presented amazingly. We had the Jalea which was fried seafood. The Aroz ala nortena, which was a rice dish made with cilantro and seafood. We also had the traditional ceviche which was also out of this world. We also tried the 5 leche de tigre, which are the sauce's of the different ceviches in a shot glass. The atmosphere was pleasant and the restaurant sits right on the water, with nice views of the San Francisco Bay Bridge. The only thing I did not like was the salsa music that they played. Salsa music is not peruvian music, so I don't understand why they play salsa.
I took all my family there an as peruvians we felt that the place didnt feel peruvian at all , it needed more decoration that makes you feel that you are there. Food good everybody like it , the prices in the high range but they need to do something about those bathrooms ,not good at all.
This restaurant has many things going for it: great location, great atmosphere and good food are among them.
I loved the high ceilings, white woodwork and bright blue chairs and accents. Even though it was crowded it felt pretty spacious.
In terms of food, everything was beautiful presented (which was nice since the food was a little on the pricey side), and very tasty.
Based on reviews by other yelpers, we and our friends tried the cebiche tasting which came with 4 different cebiches. My favorite among those was what i believe to be the cebiche nikei, which was japanese-influenced. We also tried the lomo empanadas which were quite good. We also got the causa tasting and those were all very good. They are like little towers of stiff mashed potatoes topped with seafood. My favorites were those topped with dungeness crab and ahi tuna
For dinner we had one of the specials (fish skewers), the lomo saltado (which was delicious), the chupe de campornes (a rich shrimp stew which was very tasty) and the cordero (braised lamb shank - was good but my least favorite of all the dishes.
For dessert we got the beignets, which were little chocolate doughnut balls, oozing hot chocolate with a little bit of vanilla ice cream. They were out of this world.
This is a great restaurant to go with other people as you get to try more of the great food that way.
Was a great dinner out, and we would definitely recommend to others!
Highly recommended! Right on the water, classy and casual, with food that is both elegant and unique. The wait staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly. Great first date restaurant. Not pretentious, just perfect.
