Joseph and Matilda Novak (Papa and Mama) came to the United States from Hungary in 1957. Together with twin daughters Karen and Matilda they opened the original Novak's Hungarian Paprikas in April 1984. We've expanded both the menu and the restaurant, but the same Love goes into everything we prepare with the finest quality ingredients fresh every day. Whether this is your first visit with us, or you're a long time member of the family , we thank you sincerely for coming to Novak's. We're pleased to be able to offer separate banquet facilities and a wonderful new catering menu, along with fresh baked specialty breads and more pastries than ever!
On a trip to Corvallis, we had heard that Novak's was a mandatory side trip. So we packed up and made the drive over. It was worth the effort.
Authentic old-world faire for those who yearn for traditional dishes from central and eastern Europe and desserts that demonstrate the owners' passion for perfection.
Wanting to sample a bit of everything we had heard so much about, we tried the Hunter's Combo plate [Töltött Káposzta (cabbage rolls), Bécsi Szelet (breaded beef), Kolbász (homemade sausage) and Párizsi Szelet (battered pork tenderloin)], Papa's Kolbász (Hungarian Sausage) with sweet & sour red cabbage, and the Shepherd's Combo [Chicken Paprika, Beef Porkolt, Székely Töltött Káposzta (cabbage roll) and more Kolbász].
The pastries, cakes and pies were displayed in refrigerated cases, tempting us to further excess. You almost can't go wrong here, except that you'll be sorely tempted to eat far too much. Good luck with that challenge. We happily succumbed.
Novak's more than lived up to all that we had heard.
Eostar's family said to come by and eat so i did. What a wonderful dinner! I hope that you all find a way to be recocknized as you progress in the community. Thank you so much. Blessed adventures in resourcefulness and happy season of embrace.
Cheers to good work ethics!
